Every cell of the human body requires energy to perform the metabolic functions that sustain life. Glucose is a small, simple sugar that serves as a primary fuel for energy production, especially for the brain. Glucose also serves as a building block for larger structural molecules, muscles, organs and tissues of the body. The body therefore, regulates the glucose levels. Abnormally high or low levels result in serious, potentially life-threatening complications.

Most of the food we eat is turned into glucose, which is the main source of energy for the body. The pancreas makes a hormone called insulin to help the glucose get into the cells of the body. Insulin is the only hormone which reduces the glucose levels, the rest of the hormones increase glucose levels. Consequently, the pancreas plays an important role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body’s cells. The pancreas has two main functions – that helps in digestion and regulates blood sugar. When the body does not make enough insulin (Type 1 Diabetes) or cannot use its own insulin (Type 2 Diabetes), causes sugars to build up in the blood.

Diabetes is a health issue that occurs when the blood glucose in the body, also called blood sugar, is too high. Overeating or wrong eating habits leads to excess production of glucose which gets stored in the body in the form of fat. For the proper regulation of this blood sugar, insulin is very essential. With the absence of insulin, the glucose remains in the blood and leads to various health issues.

Your health is in your hands. It is up to you whether you give the body that is essential for it to be healthy or ruin it by feeding it with what your tickling palate craves for. If you follow diet restrictions, Diabetes cannot take a toll on you. That is why, nutritionists advice us to take a well balanced diet.

Excess intake of fatty foods and inertia are the causes for young people to be prone to Diabetes. Irregular meals and insomnia also lead to Diabetes. Physical exercise, yoga and brisk walking for 30 minutes every day is very essential.

Rice is the staple food for most of the Indians. Greater significance is given to the outer appearance of the  rice kernels; we prefer to use those rice grains which are shining white ignoring the fact that it is polished rice. The outer brown layer called the husk is removed from the kernels to extract Rice Bran Oil. This strips off the essential Vitamins like B vitamin, minerals and other nutrients from the rice. By eating such milled and polished rice people are easily prone to Diabetes. As an alternative, people should take navara rice, one time husk removed rice, finger millet (ragi), sajjalu (pearl millet), jowar (sorghum), korralu (foxtail millet), and malted barley (yavalu).

VEGETABLES: Consume beans, cluster beans, legumes, potatoes, tomatoes, amaranthus tristis ( thotakura), dwarf copperleaf (ponnagantikura), fenugreek leaves (menthikura), spinach (palak), dill (soyikura), sorrel (watermelon, apple, guava, papaya, jamun). Prepare the vegetables without oil. This is called ‘Ghandarva Bhojan’. Along with this, take plenty of salads. Every morning drink 2 glasses of warm water. Soak overnight 1 tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in 2 glasses of water. Early morning boil it to ½ glass decotion. Consume this for 90 consecutive days. For breakfast avoid eating vada, fermented items like idli and dosa. As a substitute, eat soaked groundnuts, sprouted Bengal gram (senagalu), green gram (pesarlu), black-eyed peas (bobbarlu), horse gram (ulavalu) along with figs and dates. You can consume the sprouts directly or even make a paste and eat. (For instance: the protein content in an egg is 20gms, whereas in sprouts it is 80gms).

YOGA: It is just not food that is adequate for the body but the pranic system is the quintessence of life. Along with yoga, man should practice ‘Super Yoga’ (involving washing clothes, sweeping and mopping the floor). This should be made mandatory every day. This helps to keep the body healthy and active.

VANA PRADAKSHINA: Do 1 to 7 rounds of circum-ambulation around the trees in the area specified for the purpose. This will help to flush out carbon dioxide from the body and take in oxygen. The body can absorb abundant quantity of Vitamins A, E, D2, D3, improves immunity and helps to keep at bay High B.P., Diabetes, Cancer, Heart Attack, Kidney, Liver and Cholesterol problems.

VRIKSHA SHWASA KRIYA: Purifies the 72,000 nadis. Sit in any comfortable posture under the canopy of any tree. Allow the tender sunrays to fall on you trough the branches of the tree.
